How Credit Cards Are Getting Smart

By: Larry Goldberg

It is recommended that you don’t have more than three credit cards at one time, lest you overload yourself with possible debt. Soon, it is suggested, you will only need one credit card – a smart card. Smart credit cards are a growing new trend. They are currently used more frequently in other parts of the world than in the United States, but soon will be making their way all around the globe and will become “the” essential card to have. The VISA smart card will help protect your financial resources with credit card security.

The VISA smart card contains a microprocessor chip that is capable of many different kinds of transactions; it is like a mini computer, if you will. This smart card will give consumers more options than with the currently available magnetic strip card. One of the more valuable aspects associated with this technology is credit card security. Specialized smart card readers will disseminate the information loaded onto your smart card.

Besides their standard use as a credit card, they can also be used as a debit card, and can contain prepaid monetary value, with an option for replenishing the prepaid amount. They store multiple types of information with quick, easy access; yet, they are encrypted in such as a way as to be secure and more adaptable at preventing fraudulent uses. Smart cards are also tougher and sturdier than a regular credit card; therefore, it is expected to last longer and replacement cards are not expected to be needed as often.

The technology incorporated into the VISA smart card will help prevent fraud and theft in much more sophisticated ways than is available now. The kind of credit card security afforded by this new brand of smart card technology is much needed in this day and age of scams and hoaxes. Technology expands at a rapid pace and with that expanding technology comes, unfortunately, people who operate at almost as fast a pace to figure out how to abuse the system. Criminals look for ways to “beat the system” and make a “fast buck” from computer users who are sincere and honest in their credit card transactions. The smart card will make abusing the system a great deal more difficult, while allowing you more flexibility in use.

Future options associated with the VISA smart card are expected to be downloadable, from your PC, coupons and discounts for a variety of items.

The VISA smart card is a much-needed protection device for its users. It is proof positive that credit card companies are taking credit card security seriously.
